School
is back in session and it won't be long until summer is here. It is
never too early to sign up for a session this summer.
Summer
Camp is much more than swimming, archery, paintball and camp fires.
Summer Camp is about making positive relationships with others in a
caring atmosphere and focusing on the YMCA core values of caring, honesty,
respect and responsibility.

Strong
Kids Campaign
Operation
Purple Camp
YMCA
Camp Winona is proud to host Operation Purple Camp. The Nationa Military
Family Association develped this free summer camp program in response
to the need for increased support for military children whose parents
are or will be deployed in Iraq and Afganistan.
Operation
Purple Camp provides a much needed respite from the worries of war that
many of our Nation's children face each day their Mom or Dad is deployed.
"NMFA is excited to work with the YMCA on this very worthwhile
program,"said Nancy Alsheimer, NMFA Chairman of the Board. "Together
we can make a difference in the lives of military children."
Operation Purple Camps will be hosted in 63 camps across
the country to nearly 10,000 children thanks to a partnership and support
from the Sierra Club Foundation.
The Strong Kids Campaign
is a fundraising program that allows kids to go to camp. Last year,
individuals raised over $28,000 dollars to help send kids to camp.
The decision-making is hard. Each family requesting
a scholarship contacts the office, fills out an application and sends
it back. The committee that reviews the applications and assigns scholarship
amounts really sees the needs of many families in our community. Each
year we helpe send between 100 - 150 kids to camp who would not have
been able to attend.
You can give to the Strong Kids Campaign by contacting
David Larrabee.. Every donation is tax-deductible and goes to a very
worthy cause... kids!
